I am not Cassie Burdette. First of all, she's a much better golfer than I. Here's my excuse: Cassie took the game up when she was seven; I waited until almost forty. The picture at the right shows you what I was doing back then. (That's me on the ground with older sister, Sue, standing.)

Second, I'm a lot luckier in love than Cassie has been so far. My husband John is not only a patient and funny man, he's a fantastic editor and cheerleader to boot.

Third, Cassie is a much better caddie than I could ever be. Just ask my golf teacher and good friend, Don Gliha. I carried his bag several years ago at the Connecticut Open. Although my husband pressed me to get in shape for this outing, and although Don emptied everything absolutely nonessential out of his bag (he did insist on keeping all 14 of his clubs), I barely made it around. And Dono finished the tournament carrying his own bag. Need I mention that we did not make the cut?

In my non-writing life, I'm a clinical psychologist with a small private practice. My training was mostly psychodynamic-like Cassie's Dr. Baxter. This means exploring how your family history shaped you and how you might be reacting to the world using old patterns that don't really fit the present. (The work of a psychologist is not so different from that of a detective!) Please check out my psychology links for interesting stuff about this field. Here's me with our adopted Australian shepherd, Poco.
